Canadian Citizen

People come to Canada from all over the world to share our good and peaceful way of life.

But the early weeks and months after arrival can be a challenge for newcomers. Moral support and information about the community can help a new immigrant get a good start on life in Canada.

The Host Program matches community volunteers and newcomers, as individuals or as families, who then spend time together in friendship and mutual learning. The volunteers help their new friend to learn about daily living in Canada, while they practise English or French conversation. For their part, Host volunteers learn about other home lands and cultures, and gain a greater appreciation for the immigrant experience.

The Host Program also offers activities for groups. These offer opportunities for even more interaction with diverse members of the community, and they are often a lot of fun.

The Host Program is free for participants.
